We investigate changes to the terrestrial environment influenced by climatic variability, and infer past climatic conditions from species abundance.
Institute members seek answers to questions such as:
- How have spatial and temporal variations in climate, geology, disturbance, and other factors affected plant assemblages?
- What can a plant species' distribution and tell about its potential future?
- What fine scale climate changes are recorded by biological remains in lake sediment?
- How have humans influenced vegetation during the past 10,000 years?
